The Journey of Life, Inside the Mind of Josh Rohde

Hello Reader,
It’s been a while since my last one – yes, I know. We all have our fair share of stuff that we’ve got going on but for this entry I am simply going to “go off”, if I may. So buckle up and grab some popcorn or whatever it is you choose to indulge in because you and I are about to embark on a journey far, far away from the unbeaten path – into the mind of Josh Rohde.
Some will look at him and question “Why is he the way he is?” Others will look at him and say “Man, he’s pretty lucky he gets to do all of that!” (Which I am). And some may say “I don’t know how he does all of that? Where is his time? Why would he do that to himself?” The answer is simple: just be.
I’ve gone through a few significant life changing chapters over the past couple of years trying to identify and figure out what it is I want to do and what kind of legacy I want to leave behind. At times I would get frustrated because I have this vision in my head of what I want my life to be or what I thought it should be and that would rattle me a bit, as it would anyone. Anyone who is ambitious and has a dream will always want more from life. But over the time that I have been riding these waves in my life, I have fallen. Cast into the waters, with just enough strength to continue to fight just to stay afloat, often not by my design but by forces greater than I or of this world. Sometimes I’ve even jumped ship because I didn’t know how else to get out or survive the storm, in doing so I didn’t know what laid beneath in the waters I was about to be fully submerged in. Sometimes you just gotta take a leap of faith. Sometimes you have to simply be content with where you are. But never, never will I, should I, nor have I – thrown my hands up because I was “out of options”. Yeah things got hard, life sucked for a little bit, I felt I had been going through life in a respectable enough way where I felt I deserved better. But let me tell you something. You don’t deserve anything in this life. You aren’t entitled to anything in this life. Just because you did this you feel you deserve that –  you’re wrong. Opportunity is often disguised as work. If you’re not willing to work for something then guess what, you’ll never get that opportunity that you feel you “deserve”.  For just one minute take a second and look around you. Are you safe? Do you know where you’re next meal is going to come from? Do you have clothes on your back? My guess is yes, you do. You are blessed. So cheer up buttercup, things will get better. You’ve just got to change your perspective first.
Life is all about, to me, the never ending pursuit of happiness (movie reference there). If you’re not happy with your life and what you’re doing – who is to blame? If you want to see a change, then be that change. Giving anything but your best is nothing but a waste of time and energy. When you invest in something, invest in it, 110%. Don’t just give and hold back “just in case” something happens. To live a life where you are not happy is not good enough, for me. Find meaning in things, surround yourself with people you care about and people that care about you and love what you do! So back to my initial answer: just be. I struggled a little bit with some things, some things that I viewed as personal short comings because it wasn’t what I wanted at that point in time. Looking back it was exactly what I needed to “just be” right now. Even right now I am not where I want to be, but I know where I’m going. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel (cliche, I know). I can see things in motion. I can see and feel life is happening, things that are beyond my control. And that’s another crucial element to this – control what you can control and what you can’t control, accept it. When you accept it, you stop stressing about it and worrying about it and thinking about it and you can focus on more important things, like “just being”. So my advice today…from where ever you are in life, be there. Be fully and unequivocally there. Be present. Live for right here and right now and not for anything else. Love from right where you are. Give from right where you are. And “be” right where you are.
“Don’t ever let somebody tell you, you can’t do something. Not even me. All right? You got a dream, you gotta protect it. People can’t do somethin’ themselves, they wanna tell you you can’t do it. If you want somethin’, go get it. Period.” ~ Chris Gardner
